These little Coho salmon were set free yesterday. About 2 weeks ago 10,000 Coho salmon were placed in net pens so they could imprint themselves to the Sable riv er. This experiment was made possible by the Manistee Sport fishing Association, The Ludington Charter Boat Association and the DNR agreeing to move these fish from Portage to the Sable river. This is a group effort with many people being involved.
Yesterday when the penned fish were released the fisheries division released an additional 40,000 Coho. So a grand total for the Sable river is 50,000. Let's hope these fish make a decent return over the next couple of years.
This was a cool experience to be involved with and thank you to all involved.
